Aurora City Council at Large
Aurora City Council at Large
Throughout my life, I have found it most rewarding to be in the service of others. It would be my pleasure to continue this commitment by serving on the Aurora City Council to help shape the future of our great community. Being part of diverse industries and working with a variety of people over the years towards common goals has taught me many things. I know that the priority is to focus on the end result for Aurora and engage with everyone regardless of political ideology to achieve our objectives.
Aurora City Council At Large Candidate Russ Wagner Raises the Highest Reported Donor-Funded Campaign in Race
Aurora, Colorado – In an incredibly successful financial disclosure, Russ Wagner, a Navy veteran and third generation Aurora resident, announced that he raised $19,260 for his campaign through August 9. With dozens of contributions from individuals and organizations alike, the report surpassed every other candidate in the race for donor-dollars raised.
“I am extremely humbled by our results thus far,” Wagner noted. “Whether through financial commitments, volunteer work, or encouraging words, this community has truly blown me away with their investment in the campaign.”
Wagner and his wife, along with their three young children, are committed to seeing Aurora as a thriving home long into the future. Wagner’s campaign is driven by a vision of safe, inclusive, and responsible growth for the community as a whole.
“The years I served in the military taught me about leadership”, Wagner said. “First and foremost, I believe public safety is the necessary groundwork to any city. That’s why I am devoted to supporting our public safety professionals to ensure that Aurora remains one of the safest large cities in Colorado and the nation.”
As such, Wagner and his campaign were honored by the recent endorsement of the Aurora Police Association. In backing Wagner, the Police Association joins numerous local leaders and community influencers who jumped on board early with support.
Wagner remains resolved to work tirelessly to ensure Aurora’s economy continues to develop, including a focus on the expansion of infrastructure to bolster quality of life for all residents.
"Following my time Navy, I came home to Aurora. My wife and I decided to raise our family here because we believe that the city has infinite opportunities for our family, now and into the future," Wagner concluded.
Following my military service in the US Navy, I came home to Aurora. My wife and I decided to raise our three children here because we believe that the city has infinite opportunities for our family, now and into the future.
The experience I bring is highly diversified and has uniquely prepared me to serve the city as a council member. My time in the US Navy, and the many leadership roles I took on during this time taught me discipline, vision, and accountability to our country. However, I am not solely a military candidate; I successfully used what I learned and have transitioned into the business world following my service as a proven leader. Whether in the energy industry, as a Certified Water Professional, or in my current role in Utilities Operations of Coors Brewery, I bring a level of inherent passion and pragmatism to any challenge I face; but more importantly, I bring all the knowledge I have amassed and can successfully apply it to ensure Aurora takes advantage of every opportunity it has.
• Certified Water Professional (since 2016)
• Certified Diversity and Inclusion Trainer (since 2013)
• Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (since 2012)
• FEMA Certified– National Incident Management System - Incident Commander (since 2011)
• Level III Hazmat Technician (since 2009)
• University of Phoenix- AA in Nuclear Technology (2001)
Aurora is not only a great place to live, but also a great place to work and do business. With the new light rail line connecting Aurora to the greater metro area, the city is now more attractive than ever to new and expanding companies. I recognize the importance of fostering the key industries already established here, and see the opportunity for the city to attract businesses from new industries as well.
Our commitment to economic development and attracting new businesses to drive job growth is absolutely a priority. We should continue to support the small businesses that operate in our community and help drive economic prosperity for all citizens.
I will work to ensure that Aurora remains a great place to do business for all sizes and types of companies.
As a US Navy veteran and state certified hazmat emergency responder, I understand and appreciate the sacrifice that emergency personnel make to keep us all safe. Today’s law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel face incredible challenges in doing this.
From my experience, I know first hand how important it is to have the right resources available, whether it is training, equipment, staffing, or other needs. We need to collaborate to ensure we set our emergency personnel up for success, while being mindful that the citizens of Aurora receive the very best services for their tax dollar.
I am committed to supporting our public safety professionals and the rapidly-evolving challenges we face, so that Aurora can remain one of the safest large cities in Colorado and the nation.
As Aurora continues to grow, it’s important that we handle growth responsibly and conscientiously to preserve not only our resources, but our heritage too. I have extensive experience in manufacturing, utilities, and industrial settings, and will leverage my knowledge to protect our natural resources and safeguard Aurora’s future. As a certified water professional, I bring my knowledge of water treatment, purification, and distribution to ensure that our most vital resource is preserved.
I believe in the responsible use, maintenance, and expansion of our critical infrastructure.
Aurora is truly a great place to live. Our diversity as a community is one of our greatest strengths, and together we can leverage that asset to build our future. I will focus on engaging Auroras citizens with all the city has to offer. As more millennials call Aurora home, it is important that we capture this younger generation’s passion and perspective – while ensuring that we benefit from the wisdom and experience of our older population. Our parks, open spaces, and recreational facilities afford citizens with a multitude of activities – all while being located within the natural beauty of Colorado. Maintaining our facilities and improving and maintaining infrastructure while protecting natural resources is my focus.
I want to encourage all citizens to be involved in our community to make it the best place to live, work, and play.
Russ Wagner is a candidate that I endorse for Aurora City Council.
Russ first reached out to me almost a year ago, and has proven in that time that he is not afraid to take on difficult issues head-on and is not afraid of hard work. He is a pro-business voice who will be instrumental in helping Aurora move forward. I believe that he will make an excellent Council Member and hope you take the time to get to know him as well.
Aurora City Council
To the people of Aurora,
I wanted to take a minute to endorse Russ Wagner for City Council. I have known Russ for many years and respect him tremendously. He has personal integrity at a level that’s very uncommon at this point in history. His commitment to do what is right in any situation is unquestionable, and is reflected in the way he is raising his children and his dedication to his family.
His desire to help the people of Aurora and our beautiful state has led him to enter the arena of politics where all too often integrity is for sale. I am confident that with Mr. Wagner, truth will always be foremost and he can’t be bought. Of course that sort of behavior can make for rough waters in the day to day grind of being on the city council, but I know he will not only navigate through, but will also have the strength to stand up and calm the storms that are an inevitable part of this type of job.
I can say these things about this man because we have both been faced with one of the most unimaginable tragedies a husband and father could ever have to endure, and I admire him for how he has handled himself in the aftermath. It is a testament to the man and his faith that he has returned from the devastation to the point that he’s in the position to seek this challenging office for those of us who live or work in our wonderful city.
